1. What is
speaker refoaming and how much does it cost?
Speaker
refoaming or "New-Edge-It"® service involves the
removal and replacement of the deteriorated foam suspension
found in most speaker systems. Over time (usually 10-15 years)
the poly-foam suspension gradually deteriorates and will cause
a lack of bass response and distortion in the lower
frequencies. See our Speaker
Refoaming price list.
2. What is
a "New-Edge-It"® repair kit and how does it work?
A
"New-Edge-It"® speaker repair kit consists of two new
poly-foam surrounds, special adhesive and step-by-step illustrated
installation instructions. These parts are available as a kit
for the average "do-it-yourselfer" who wants to save time
and money and repair their own speakers. See our Do-it-Yourself
speaker repair page.
3. Are
"New-Edge-It"® repair kits available for my make
and model?
Yes! We stock
"New-Edge-It"® kits for over 5,000 makes and
models, regardless of age or brand!
4. Can I
install a "New-Edge-It"® kit successfully?
Yes! If you
are an average do-it-yourselfer you can join the thousands of satisfied customers who already have! See Customer
Comments.
5. My
speakers have more problems than just a deteriorated foam
surround. Can Simply Speakers repair them?
Yes. We offer
full reconing service for virtually all makes and models. We
can replace the voice coil, spider, cone, surround, dust cap,
and gasket to bring your speakers back to original factory
specifications. See our Speaker
Reconing page.
6. How
long does it take to repair my speakers?
Speaker
refoaming or "New-Edge-It"® speaker repair service usually
about 1 week. Speaker reconing service usually takes 1
to 2 weeks. Take into consideration the
shipping time to and from us.
7. I want
to repair my older, classic speaker system and use them as the
main left and right speakers in a new Dolby Digital home theater system. Is this possible?
Yes! Although
many people are told that these new systems require five or
seven exact matching speakers, this is
simply not the case. Many moderate to high priced speakers
today do not incorporate the quality of components and
engineering found in many classic older systems. We recommend
using your classics as the main left and right channels and
purchasing similar decent quality center channel, rear channels, and
powered subwoofer to complete your new system.
8. I would
like to send my speakers in for service. What is the best way
to pack and ship them?
Its easy! Please see
our Packing and Shipping
page for full details.
9. What
warranties are offered on my repaired speakers?
We offer the
best warranties in the business! See our Warranties
page for full details.
10. Is

14. How do
I know if my speakers have foam rot?
When foam rot
occurs, you will usually notice distortion and a lack of bass
response. Remove the speaker grills and gently pinch the
rolled edge of the cone (surround). If it crumbles, tears, or
feels sticky, this is an indication that service is required.
15. I own
a pair of Bose 901’s or Bose 802's. Will they suffer from surround
deterioration?
Yes. All 18
full-range drivers in the Bose 901 speaker system or the 16
drivers in the Bose 802 pro system will suffer
from foam rot over time. Fortunately, we have a special
package price to rebuild all 18 drivers. See our Speaker
Refoaming page. Or try one of our
"New-Edge-It"® kits available in foam or cloth
designed specifically for the 901 and 802 systems, found on the Do-it-Yourself
page.
