Good and proper recone kit. The install manual was clear and with the supplied glue it was easy to fix.

Hi. The small metallparts om the voicecoil was bended off during shipping due to that they wasnt taped in a correct way on the supportcenter, made out of paper. Expect from that everything was perfect. Speakers are reconed and works.

First Tim Re-Coner
Pros: Shipping was superfast. All items were carefully packed and arrived intact. Although the kit came with written instructions, the online video was so good I didn't even read the instructions. All the parts fit well, except for the plastic shim (see Cons below). The end result was a mostly pro looking speaker that works perfectly. A "heads up" for those that watch the video: on the video the removal of the glue that attaches the cone surround and the spider to the frame looks real easy . . . it wasn't on my speaker. The glue was just as hard as the metal frame and it took quite an effort and a lot of time to remove it without damaging the frame. That was the hardest and most time consuming part of the re-cone process. Cons: The plastic shim. First, it was not a perfect rectangle. A section of the long length was cut off, mis-cut, or otherwise missing. More importantly, either the shim was too thick (that's my best guess) or the voice coil was too thick. After I inserted the shim into the magnet gap and tried to slide the voice coil over it, it would not slide into position like it was shown on the video. The total thickness of the voice coil winding section plus the shim was too thick to fit into the magnet gap. My solution was to put the voice coil in first (all the way down), then slip in the shim, then, with a significant amount of force and coaxing, pulled the voice coil up into position. The fit of the coil and shim was so tight I had to use a pair of pliers to grab the shim and milimeter by milimeter, pull it up and out. Thankfully no apparent damage was done to the coil and it is positioned correctly in the gap. If anyone at Simply Speakers reads this, I saved the shim and will be happy to send it to them to have them check it out. If the installation of the voice coil with the shim was as easy as shown on the video, I would have given this re-cone kit 5 stars..............................Response from Simply Speakers: Thanks for the detailed review! We send a .01 shim stock with these kits, but in some cases the JBL 2226 pole piece is slightly larger and a .007 shim stock would be easier to insert. In these cases, we cut the .01 shim into 4 or 5 1" wide strips and place them equally around the pole to allow for easy placement of the coil.
