SS Audio Diaphragm for Altec Lansing 600, 800, 900, 16 Ohm, D-808-16

I have some Altec Model 15's. Very old but daily users and have been re-coned and work like they did when I bought them new many years back. One of the horn drivers stopped working some time ago, about 9 months or so ago, so I bought one of SS replacement diaphragms. Install was easy enough and it worked great. I bought this SECOND diaphragm to put away in case the other one gives up some day, and noticed the design has changed. I'm hoping the re-design works well should I need to install it some time. But the first one is working very well.

I Hope that this will work once it is installed. It has the right resistance and looks good. However... All the screw holes are drilled about 1/16th inch too close to the center, so I have to grind out the holes to get the mounting screws to fit. And ignore the little (+) label they stick on... it falls off in shipping and is meaningless.

I purchase the 800 diaphragm from Simply Speakers. Was very happy with my purchase as I converted my 802-8G to a 802-16G. It sounded perfect and was happy with the modification which the Tech advised of which re-placement part to use for this model. Great advise from the Tech team. The item is well-constructed of highest quality materials, and priced attractively. If buying as a 604 duplex replacement however, know that the alignment holes do not work well, they are too large and require re-drilling. As such, I can't tell if my voice coil is scraping the magnet, no matter how I try. Sounds good, but doubt you can hear VC scrape in a tweeter anyway. Guess we'll see how it goes, but I am a bit nervous now, and probably should just spend the $ for the exact replacement.......................Reply from Simply Speakers: Thanks for the review! The output would be greatly reduced if there was any coil rub. We have a great track record with this model diaphragm so you should have no issues. The original is no longer available.

The SS Altec diaphragm works beautifully. Great replacement.
