My old friends are back!

Had 42 year old 501 Series II that the foam was all rotted off. Saw this repair vs. new speakers and thought I would give it a try. The video is what sold me, it was extremely helpful. Be VERY careful of you final alignment before gluing the outside edges. If you are ever so slightly off center the magnet will rub and if the glue is set, you're screwed! One of mine just barely touched when I pressed the speaker in and out and when I fired it up, it sounded terribly. I was able to take a small piece of foam and glue it to the outside edge of the speaker and press it in ever so slightly to realign it. Sounds great now...my fault totally.

Bose 501 Recovered and kicking

Recovered several speakers using Simplyspeakers foams, and other brands. This time I worked a pair of 501 Series 1 from 1979. Owner was very proud of them, but time ruined the foams and internal fuses. When money is not a problem (it is not cheap to ship these to Catalonia), I like to use Simplyspeakers foams. Well cut and suit perfect. These foam stand the heat, and UV much better than chinese foams. The glue is perfectly formulated to allow 5 minutes to recenter if needed. Follow the simplyspeakers tutorials at youtube for a perfect job. After glue curation and driver reinstall, I tested with Alan Parsons test CD and there are no ressonances, no peaks, no imperfection at all. Magnet is strong after 40 years, hence, the original speaker can be recovered, keeping all the original character. Very good job, Simplyspeakers. Keep offering good products.

My speakers are 40 years newer

Thought I'd have to replace my 501s when the foam was too far gone. Then I found these and presto - they're like new! The videos make installation simple... just be patient and make sure you set aside time to be precise. Hoping for another 40 years out of these speakers!

Perfect

Bose 501 series I renewal for workshop, also being used as padded chairs at workbench’s. Fit perfect, the glue is amazing, the optional surround sealant is a must for shop….love it!!!!!!!

Bose 501 speaker repair

I purchased my Bose 501 speakers back in 1972 and used them for years until the sound got too fuzzy to continue listening to them. For about the last 25 years they were used as end tables and I considered just getting rid of them. I talked with several people and found that the problem was because the surround had deteriorated but no one had any suggestions of how to fix them or where to take them to get repaired. Finally a month ago I searched for "how to repair Bose 501 speaker surrounds" and found the Simply Speakers website. I found a repair kit for my speakers and ordered it with a little help from Tom. He also pointed me to a video to watch on how the repair was done. When I took off the speaker fabric surround I saw that there was not very much left to the speaker surround. The repair kit was easy to use and between the instructions in the video suggested by Tom and the ones included with the kit, I was able to do the repair myself. When I hooked the speakers back up to my stereo and listened to the first song, I realized what I have been missing all these years. They sounded like they did the day I bought them. I highly recommend anyone in the same situation to use Simply Speakers for help in repairing their speakers. It was well worth it!

Bose 501s are back!

Picked up a free pair of 501s at the local recycling center. Cabinets and original grills were in great shape, and I was pretty sure I knew why they were there - the dreaded foam rot. Powered them up at low volume, and the drivers were all functional, so I knew a re-foam kit would likely bring them back. The Simply Speakers kit fit well, and the instructions/videos make it easy. Take your time with the centering step when gluing the outside edge, checking and re-checking that there is no voice coil rub until the glue really sets up. Re-capped the crossovers while I had everything apart, and the nearly 50 year old speakers are rocking again.

Bass manager

I purchased the set and received it correctly. Remark: 21€ (inport duty + VAT) on a 20$ purchase: that's how we feed the Belgian governments! I was sceptical towards the centering of the cone into the speakerframe but due to the properties of the glue (delivered with the kit) it is quiet easy to get it done. During the glue process there is time to check and correct the positioning (various times) until you have it perfectly aligned. The video clip is a real help especially for understanding the timing of the glue!! After 48h I have tested the woofers with a potion of Gregory Porter's Liquid Spirit: My stomach was kicked that bad that I had to run for a Whiskey!! The result is simply "excellent". (I might buy an extra set for my kids so that they can refurbish them again in 2043). Luc Voorspoels. Solid Bass Lover
