Owner of 4 JBL 4410As
The foam rings themselves are excellent in quality, way less delicate than the aging foam in the old JBL speakers. I was able to restore my JBL speaker to full working order using it. The real trick is in the knack of installation. The instruction in the video are very good. With respect to the video, I would say you might want to prefit the foam before you did the stretch thing with the foam. I did the stretch thing and the foam was a little floppier at installation than it needed to be. This would depend on which speaker you are fixing I imagine. But it still worked fine. Also for the novice, that blind application of glue around the perimeter of the speaker is a little dodgy. The demonstrator in the video is very experienced and has very good control on the extrusion rate of the glue. A noobie might better try to put the foam in place ready to be joined to the paper and then dip the foam down so you can see where the glue is being applied and proceed to lay down an even bead of glue onto the foam all around. Then you would press to foam onto the paper of the speaker. The glue is something like airplane glue. It dries quickly but you have a bit of time before it sets up permanently. The whole job went very well if a bit messy cosmetically. This does appear to be one only a few options that is available to save these old JBL speakers. If you are a bit clutzy and prone to exasperation you might consider saving your nickels and just sending it in directly to 'Simply Speakers'. Nice to know this option is available. Either way works fine though.

The only hard part was getting the old edge off the metal frame and waiting for the glue to set up to proceed to the next step. It really was not difficult and can/could be done by most individuals. Watch the online video and follow the instructions. By early 80's JBL's still sound good! Thanks, Gary

I have purchased several of these speaker repair kits and once again I am extremely pleased. The kits are easy to use and the adhesive is some of the best I've used. Will definitely purchase again!

Had a very good experience with Simply Speakers. Staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Foam repair kit for my JBL 36 was straight forward and fairly easy to apply. It is a tedious and time consuming job to take off all of the little pieces of the old foam. One of the speakers was still buzzing after the install..... apparently we had a gap in the gluing. No problem, we contacted Simply Speakers and they cheerfully sent us another foam ring at no charge. We reinstalled it and the JBLs sound great.

Refoamed a pair of LS80 JBL's I use in the recording studio for playback to the musicians. The kits got them back up and running. I'm a perfectionist so I'm not 100% happy with my work. On these JBL's the foam goes on from the rear of the cone. There are 4 braces as these are cast speakers. It's difficult to clean and glue behind these, just take your time. I let the first glue job dry overnight (Foam to the cone). Having a lot of experience with speakers, it is critical that the voice coil move smoothly. There is a bit of guesswork to get the outside of the foam glued to the frame and have the coil run smooth. I push these speakers pretty hard. If that voice coil hits at all they will fry. . Study the speaker while exercising it up and down and eventually you'll find the sweet spot. Plan on a good 3 hours, mostly cleaning time, again I'm a perfectionist, everything takes me longer, but they work perfectly. The tip in the instructions "A little glue goes a long way" is true. apply some to a piece of scrap. It really comes out fast and you don't want too much, just nice and even.
