SS Audio Recone Kit for 15" Klipsch KD15, KD16 Passive Radiator, Cloth Edge

About the only difficulty I had was removing the old mass from the original cone. Once I had accomplished that, the rest of the assembly was easy and straightforward. Looks stock and sounds just like the original working one in the other cabinet.

The passive fits perfectly, but the instructions included were for a subwoofer replacement. Completely different parts. There was a note when buying to reuse the wax weight, but no help with how to do that and the process to install. I figured it out, but maybe an update to the instructions specific to passives would be good. Everything sounds great though!

The kit is top quality and looks/sounds exactly as the original did. As other reviewers mention, the directions are from a sub woofer, which incudes the voice coil, which is different. On the passive, the original cone is not open with a hole in the base, it is closed with a cylindrical protruding end that fits through the spider where the voice coil of a speaker would be. It has some weights set in wax under the dust cover. You have to cut the base of the old cone off of old passive (leave 1" or so of cone above the wax to glue to the new cone, or more if you like as long as it fits under the dust cap) Then, after dry fitting everything and making any necessary trimming, find and mark where the spider sits centered in the frame and glue/let it set up, then glue the cone to the frame edge, and let that set up. Then epoxy the old cone piece to the new cone AND the new cone and old cone piece that fits through the spider to the spider. It al fits together nicely. Once that sets, you can dress the surround with the white treatment to seal it, and drop/glue the dust cover in. Lastly replace the gasket (I was able to save my original once by cutting it out carefully). Simply speaker was very helpful via text walking me through tis for a perfect job.

Worked perfect and looks just like original, the hardest part was making the old weight fit into the new cone, takes time to cut and shape old wax material off weight to fit properly in new cone. Instructions weren't useful because instructions were for a real speaker.

The provided instructions weren't for this passive sub. I watched the youtube video for instructions. Getting the weight thing back in is kinda tricky. I think I have it in there ok. I was unable to reuse the original perimeter gasket so I used the one provided. It is very different from the original being in sections that didn't want to stay glued down. It is also thicker and stands proud off the back of the cabinet unlike the original. This is cosmetic, but it bothers me. I admit that I'm not that handy, maybe if I do another one sometime it will go smoother.
