Awesome Foam Repair

I had two 12-inch woofers that I was ready to throw out, they were actually in the trash can when I came across this foam repair kit. It was a good price so I thought I would try it. Sure glad I did, it was very easy and practically restored my woofers to new condition. Instructions were very clear, just make sure to keep pressing on the glue over and over until it sticks fast; when it is liquid, it doesn't have the sticky power like as it dries, then it sticks the foam down strong. I recommend it to restore old speakers.

Optimus 12" woofer surround

The voice coil did not line up as well as a set of D5 Cerwin Vegas that I rebuilt. I had to resort to using a shim to get this one right. Optimus is not a precision frame so I was not surprised. I am pleased with the results.

Happily Retired

This Foam edge Speaker Repair Kit is working just fine on my Radio Shack Optimus 50 12" Woofers. It put new life in these fine old speakers, they sound like new again!

I am a 61 year old woman and I was able to successfully refoam my 2 vintage Optimus speakers with this kit. I just watched and followed the video and read the instructions. The hardest part was the removal of the old gasket as the old glue was still really sticky and pliable, but eventually I was able to get it loose.

12" foam edge surround

The staff are very helpful with advice and quick service and the videos are very informative. I would recommend to anyone replacing their surrounds that you take your time cleaning all the old glue off, as well as, pressing the new glue into the new surrounds, around the cone and frame several times, as per the video. I did and got a great seal to both. I again have have speakers that sound as good as the day I brought them home, 36 years ago. Thank you simply speakers.

Great product, terrific instructions. Went well, work very nicely. I didn't like having to trim the circumference, but there was no exact size for my speakers. It wasn't hard, though! Nice job, folks.

Q: I have a Optimus sub woofer. Pro SW - 12. When I started removing the old rotted foam suspension from the speaker cone , I noticed that it was glued down on the back side of the cone , making it harder to clean off . Will the new foam suspension ring need to be glued to the back side of the cone like the original or to the front side of the cone like your video shows ?

A: Thanks! You can glue to the front or to the rear of the cone. Front mounting is much easier.

Q: I need the 12" foam kit for an Optimus 800c speaker. Do I need this kit or the FSK-12F?

A: Use this kit (RSO-FSK-12A) You will need to trim the outside edge of the foam a little bit to fit it in the frame. the included instructions will show you how to do it.

Q: Hi guys . I am from Australia. I have a pair of Optimus-900 box speakers ( Tandy ) . the Cat No is 40-1121. I note you have that repair kit. I measure the outer diameter and it is 290mm, your kit says 298mm. My Roll diameter is the same 270mm, and the cone diameter is 235mm, same as your kit . So what do think guys you kit should fit my 12 inch speakers ? .... cheers Paul

A: Thanks! Yes, this is the correct woofer repair kit for your model. You will trim the outside lip down to 290mm before installation for your particular model. Its easy to do.

Q: Have an Optimus pro 4000 speaker. The cone itself is about 11.75 inches in diameter. The foam surround appears to be about 13.5 inches (outside) in diameter. The woofer (?) no longer works but the other two speakers in the unit work just fine. What kit will fit the Pro 4000 speaker - woofer(?) will fix my problem? Thanks, JMS, Helena, Montana
