The most common problem with speakers are rotted, torn or damaged surrounds. The surround is the outer suspension part of the cone. Constant vibration, time and the environment cause foam and rubber surrounds to degrade. Cloth and paper surrounds can become brittle. This causes distortion and poor performance.

Diatone DS-77HR

It seemed near impossible to replace the hard surrounds on my diatones, Dimension-wise, no off-the-shelf surround would suit. With simply speakers build your own option, gave a surround that did fit, although I still needed to trim 5mm from round the outer edge. I now have suspension! and usable drivers

great produkt. I used to replace the hardened surround of sansui sp 2500 woofer. the adhesive supplied is amazing, work wonderful. Still needed to trim the foam surround 1\4 inch to fit , but that is normal. Now the speakers sound remarkable ,totally different sound. Bass is well defined.Very satisfied

Surround Huffing

OK, here's the deal: For this my maybe 5th surround replacement, I opted to keep the drivers installed on my car's back shelf. Did it in 2 phases, first the surround to the cone, then a couple days later the surround to the frame. the inner surround did not QUITE match the cone angle, so I applied extra adhesive to make sure it sealed. Little rivulets of glue ran down to the dustcap like a toxic donut glaze, but no matter because it was negligible increase in mass. I had the car doors open for ventilation but I started to get woozy from the toluene. For phase two I put a window fan in one door to minimize brain damage. Using a free sound function generator on my smart phone and feeding it to the head unit allowed me to center the voice coil in the gap. These foam surrounds are high compliance, your Cmms will change. The Q on the drivers being worked on is 0.6 and change, better for car shelf woofers. Bass was smooth and deeper than new, but they run out of excursion, not enough Xmax. Had to select a high-pass filter, on Kenwood it's called "woofer diameter." Had to break the re-foamed woofers in all over, about a week of commuting. Had a strange taste for death metal for a while after phase one, but I'm better now.

Saved a meaningful set of speakers

After my dad passed I asked mom to send me the bookshelf 2.1 stereo I had bought for him 20 years ago. I was very saddened to see that the two speakers on the sub had deteriorated into a mess, with hardly anything left. A friend sent me a link to Simply Speakers and I was able to order the re-foaming kit to try to save the set to be used in my office. Long out of production and in what seems to be an uncommon size I took measurements and hoped for the best. I received two sizes and a handwritten note to find the right fit . The instructional videos made all the difference, as I had never known this kind of repair was possible, let alone done it myself. There's a little extra glue here and there, but they sound great and I know I will be able to enjoy them for many years. I hadn't mentioned anything in the notes, this was just the level of considerate service for a customer. Thanks so much for helping make this possible, I really appreciate it.
