SS Audio Recone Kit for 8" JBL 116A, 116H, 8 Ohms, RK-JBL116A

With a little patience &care it was pretty easy to do

I received the recone kit very promptly and everything was in the box as ordered. Took my time and followed directions. Everything went very smoothly. Speaker sounds great!

With this kit, the adhesives pack, and a new foam surround I was able to restore a pair of JBL Decade 16 (L16) speakers. One needed full re-cone as it was "blown" (open resistance), and the other only needed replacement of the foam surround. Breaking them in now with good results (musical sound)! Thanks for the product offerings and videos on u-tube.

I have to give Simply Speakers five stars for the quality of their recone kits. As far as I'm concerned, I bought the kit for the JBL 116A loudspeaker. The kit components were perfectly packaged and had no defects. There was also a well-documented assembly manual with clear photos. I'd never rewired a speaker before, and thanks to the instructions, I was able to repair my JBL L16 Decade I must, however, add a further piece of documentation, as I had to proceed differently to connect the flexible wires from the terminal block to the cone. Depending on the loudspeaker model, the terminal block may be difficult to access. This is the case for the JBL 116A. In this case, solder the flexible wires to the terminal block, before connecting the other end of these wires to the single-stranded wires of the voice coil. Once this is done, you need to pass the flexible wires through the 2 holes previously drilled in the cone, just before positioning the cone around the voice coil. Then, once the cone is fixed around the voice coil, the two pieces of single-strand wire from the voice coil must be pressed against the cone. The next step is to wrap the ends of the voice coil wires around the flexible wires of the terminal block (ideally 2 turns). This ensures a very good soldering joint where the single-strand wire of the voice coil meets the flexible wire of the terminal block. Then solder. Finally, pull slightly on the terminal block wire to press the soldering point against the membrane. Cut off the excess wire and apply the black glue (MI-2000) to the voice coil wire from the voice coil to the small hole in the membrane. In any case, a big thank you to Simply Speakers for making this repair possible. Now my speakers JBL L16 Decade sound very good ! I recommend Simply Speakers without hesitation!

Excellent kit, arrived a day early; full color detailed directions with secret pro-tips that I won't divulge here; packaging was pragmatically arranged in a compact box with stuff taped in bags on the flaps; cones, caps, and spiders were stacked, and not a thing dinged, dented, or otherwise damaged. Lots of extra length of lead wire, coil height had an additional 2mm of overhang for longer linear response, BUT! I had to find SOMETHING to complain about. My only complaint is the surround gasket doesn't quite match OEM. JBL used a dense rubbery foam material that fit flush to the height&circumference of the basket lip, and outer edge of the surround. I ripped the old stuff of not even thinking about it due to full monty job, but when it came to gluing the new gasket pieces in, it didn't white go all the way to the frame without a couple little gaps, closely approached the surround but not exact, and was definitely a mm or two higher than the OEM. I wanted to take a star off for it, but its such an insignificant complaint, I couldn't bear to do so. Its covered by the speaker cloth and only I know its cosmetically imperfect. The result was rich, luscious bass, thats not overly represented. It takes on a measure of upper mid bass that Im not fond of, but thats me being spoiled. It is a two way after all. By the way, this was my first actual attempt at a re-cone... rank... #@$&%π... novice... but the directions and tips were so easy to follow, I feel like starting my own repair shop, because it was so effortlessly successful. I have zero fear to do this again using kit parts. If you feel at all intimidated, watch some of the many how-to videos they have and go for it! Whaddya got to lose?! Your woof is already poofed, can't poof it any worse, but you CAN fix it with these parts.
